Dawn of a New Age?

Socorro, New Mexico, Second of August, 2012

Professor Jonathon G. Derreck's eyes snapped open.
He was in his cheap hotel, in Magdalena. His mobile was ringing. He groped at it for a moment, snapped it open. "Yes?" He growled. He didn't like being woken.

An hour later, he was careering down the familiar road in his battered Toyota. Adrenaline coursed through his veins.

Orbit of Pluto

A huge ship was drifting through space. A literally massive ship, the size of a small moon. Roughly cuboid, but slightly tapered, it was a dull muddy orange in colour. It's surface was roughly pitted with gantries, hatches, windows, all the usual palava, but otherwise it was solid.

Zoom in onto a tiny window at the helm. A large creature is standing, facing away from the super-reinforced two-foot thick plexi-glass window. It was tall and gangly, at approximately seven foot. It was watching a screen that was hanging, miraculously, in mid-air.
On it, a human male was struggling to lift a metal bar. The figure waved a hand. It turned and said something to one of it's co-workers.

Earth

Millions of humans, as one, roared with outrage when their viewing of the 2012 weight-lifting Olympics was interrupted by an alien broadcast.

"Menschen , wir einfahren Ruhe. Wir sind die - verdammen , wieso nicht wahr? die Übersetzer fort?" There was a moment of confusion, a rush of static. "Humans, we come in peace..."

They named themselves the Galactic Federation. A pseudo-democratic organisation that had, apparently, been spreading throughout the univers from the next spiral arm along. They had been surveying humans for three hundred years, watching, calculating...

In the Pentagon, everything was upside down. Hundreds of screens showed the same strange face. Two grey eyes, a bullet shaped skull. Faint ghosts of static.

Eventually the message got through. Peace and love or else.
